EM Records has featured many very fine singers, female and male, in our range of Thai music releases; this CD-only re-issue of an album from 1985 shows why Phumphuang Duanchan must be considered one of the very finest. The "Queen of Thai Country Music" was born to a poor farming family, having only two years at school before taking to the fields. Her career was launched at local singing competitions and she became one of the great voices of luk thung, dying tragically at age 30. This original non-compilation album, released for the first time out of Thailand, was produced by the legendary Doi Inthanon. Alongside seven luk thung songs, three molam tracks also appear. Her voice is touching, beautiful, pure and indeed heartbreaking in the finest way, the very finest.
