Luthier and composer William Eaton recorded this album of eighteen untitled pieces in a botanical garden in the American Southwest and released it as a private-press LP, his first release, in a limited run of 1000 copies, in 1978. Playing self-built stringed instruments, including a 26-string harp-like Harmonium guitar, Eaton's improvised performances feature some beguiling resonant timbres and reflect the spaciousness and solitude of the Sonoran desert country. Eaton, a world-renowned luthier who began making guitars in 1971, can be considered as being in the tradition of American instrument-building innovators, and this music, though not folk, jazz or blues, has deep roots in the land. Eaton continues to be based in the Southwest, where he is the director of a school of luthiery and is a vital member of the artistic community.
